Let Nature Cool: Harnessing the Power of Passive Cooling

Energy consumption for indoor cooling has more than tripled since 1990, with significant implications for electricity grids. Demand for cooling experienced the highest annual growth among all structural energy uses in 2021 and accounted for nearly 16% of buildings sector final electricity consumption, roughly 2,000 TWh. Many electrical grids have experienced difficulty keeping up with demand, and consequently some cities are at high risk for electrical shortages in the summer months.

At Pirta, we believe that developing and implementing effective, sustainable cooling solutions is critical to preserving human life and industry in the context of global warming. Passive cooling technology has emerged as a crucial tool in our quest to cool the Earth, and Pirta is leading the way in its innovation through our groundbreaking paint. We offer a solution to the global heat crisis that doesn't rely on energy-consuming devices or complex systems. Instead, it leverages the laws of physics to create comfortable and sustainable living spaces.

Our engineers were inspired by the silkworm cocoon to develop our paint formulations. Effective at reflecting heat at the surface and expelling heat from within, cocoons are capable of maintaining comfortable internal temperatures, even in harsh conditions. Unlike other climate solutions that require significant energy inputs and may inadvertently contribute to pollution, this low-VOC cooling paint is a natural, cost-effective, and energy-efficient approach to combating rising temperatures.

The applications are nearly endless, but several industries stand to benefit significantly from our paint. Overheating electrical infrastructure is less efficient and has a shortened lifespan. Any company attempting to store goods at a cool temperature is looking at ways to improve efficiency and margins. We are proud of the role that we can play as the world responds to climate changes. Pirta aims to make passive cooling technologies accessible and easily implementable, accelerating the shift towards a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future.
